The Royal Arch

Considered the fourth degree, the Royal Arch takes Master Masons on a further step in their Masonic journey by focussing the mind on, and clarifying what has gone before, thus making that complete and perfect. It is a beautiful ceremony, which is colourful, thought provoking and interesting. It focuses on the rebuilding of King Solomon's Temple in Jerusalem, which had previously been destroyed by the Babylonians. It is a dramatic story, invoking sensations of humility, reliance, and dependence on our sublime creator. Thus, the Royal Arch follows on from the third degree, seeks and finds "that which was lost" and is the only way a Brother can complete the journey through pure Ancient Freemasonry. The lesson that this degree teaches places man in the context of eternity. A Brother becomes a complete Mason after taking the Holy Royal Arch degree.

Companionship

Members of the Royal Arch are known as "Companions". This word is said to be derived from two Latin terms, someone with whom you shared bread, and who could be trusted with your life. Thus a deep respect and consideration for one's Companions is encouraged. Of particular significance is the phrase "To unite in the grand design of being happy and communicating happiness".

Membership

A Brother needs to have been a Master Mason for four weeks or longer to be eligible to be admitted to a Royal Arch Chapter. The Lodge does not have a dedicated Chapter but does have a Royal Arch Representative who will advise any interested Brother about the options available. Chapters meet at different locations and on different days of the week and times of the day, so it is a matter of personal choice and convenience which is best for each individual.
